Danvers Water Main Break, Car Into Building Prompting Evacuation

Police say they are handling a water main break that's made the road impassable and a car crash that prompted a gas leak and evacuation.

DANVERS, MA — Danvers Police are warning residents about a water main break near the middle school and a crash that caused a gas main break on Constitution Lane.

The incidents both happened this afternoon causing traffic delays. The water main break on Conant Street near Holten Richmond Middle School is making the road there look more like a river.

Police say there are detours in place but drivers should avoid the area as the intersection is impassable currently.

Meanwhile after a car struck a building on Constitution Lane a gas leak prompted a building evacuation. No injuries have been reported, according to police and National Grid is on the scene there at 85 Constitution Lane. But it's probably also a good idea to steer clear.

As of 2:51 p.m. Police were still not allowing anyone at the office building to go back inside the building for longer than 5 minutes at a time.
