Out Of The Dog House: 'Shoplifting' Pup Reunited With Owners

This pup with 'sticky paws' was picked up for shoplifting today in Danvers, said police.

DANVERS, MA — Police "arrested" a particularly furry shoplifter at Liberty Tree Mall Wednesday afternoon.

This brown pup named "Ashie" was picked up by police for wandering around Dick's Sporting Goods without his person and shoplifting, according to police. While the wandering part might have been the dog being lost, and is not exactly illegal, shoplifting is. No word on what this guy allegedly tried to shoplift. But our hunch is that he'll get off with a warning. Within three hours the mysterious pup was "bailed out" by his owners, police said.

Employees and regular customers at Dick's took to social media to wonder how he got inside the store, with notoriously heavy doors. Many cracked jokes (hard not to):

Police say he didn't have tags when they found him but they held him in the hopes his person would recognize this mug posted on Facebook and Twitter and come forward. The social media posts worked, apparently, the Danvers Police Facebook post got some 222 likes and 1,000 shares, alone.

By 4 p.m. Ashie's owners had come to claim him, according to the Police.
