Duggan Shatters Record, Nabs Kazmaier Nomination
Danvers Olympian's star still rising. Duggan shatters scoring record at the University of Wisconsin.
Danvers native and 2010 Olympian Meghan Duggan shattered the University of Wisconsin all time scoring record Friday, Feb. 18, scoring two points against Minnesota State. She’s only the second player at the University of Wisconsin to ever reach 200 points. Surpassing the record, Duggan now sits at 224 points.
Her feat also makes the first player in the school's history to score 100 goals and 100 assists. Only 13 players in all of NCAA hockey have ever reached that milestone. In the world of hockey scoring, total goals plus assists equals total points.
Duggan also holds the record for points scored in consecutive games, currently putting points up in an unheard of 25 games in a row. Ranked No. 2 in the nation in scoring, Duggan leads the entire WCHA (Western Collegiate College Association) conference.

In 2010 – a member of the U.S.A. Women's Hockey Team at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C. – she returned home to Danvers with a silver medal.
Her father, Bob Duggan, can account for her strong all-around work ethic.

“She has a tremendous amount of drive,” he explained. “She loves to compete, but she puts as much stress and pressure on herself academically as she does athletically.”
How does Meghan stay in such top form? “She recognizes you have to work hard to excel,” the elder Duggan says. “Her body is kind of like a temple. She knows if she doesn’t treat it well, she wont perform well.”
He admits the Olympic silver medalist doesn’t take a lot of down time.
“Summers are hard and long,” he said. “She works all through the summer.”
What’s next for Meghan?
“Hopefully we're going to see her in Eerie, if they make the Frozen Four – that’s when the top four teams make it to Pennsylvania,” Bob Duggan said. “Then she's hopefully off to Zurich (Switzerland). Although the teams haven’t been announced for the National Hockey World Championships, we’re hoping she makes it out there and we’ll meet up with her there.”
Most recently the family has another reason to celebrate. It was announced that Meghan Duggan has been nominated for the Patty Kazmaier Award. There are 26 women’s college hockey players nominated nationwide and she is just one of three from the University of Wisconsin with the nomination. The winner will be announced later in March.
“[It’s] like The Heisman for women’s hockey,” Bob Duggan said. “So it’s quite an honor.”
Yet another milestone in Meghan Duggan’s already shining hockey career.
