DANVERS, MA — The Essex County Sheriff's Office is making a big push to fill open correctional officer positions with paid training, a $2,500 signing bonus and up to $68,000 as a starting salary.

The Essex County Sheriff's Office will hold a career fair for prospective candidates on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Spurk Building at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill.

New officers will begin working in one of our correctional facilities. From there, many job advancement opportunities become available.

There is no prior experience necessary to be hired.

Eligible candidates must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license, have U.S. citizenship, dual citizenship or have U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident status. Candidates must pass a physical fitness test, extensive background investigation, interview, psychological screening and drug test.

Candidates must be able to obtain a valid firearm-carrying license, which can be obtained during training, and medical clearance for the Basic Training Academy.

Employees, vendors and volunteers must be able to communicate effectively with staff, inmates and the general public.
