Falcons Grounded at League Meet

Danvers High Falcons' track struggles through NEC Meet in Lynn, finishing fifth in girls and ninth in boys team scores.

The co-ed Falcons’ track team struggled Saturday, competing in the Northeast Conference Championship Meet at Lynn’s Manning Field.

The girls’ squad finished fifth, trailing Peabody by 16 points, while the boys’ squad shared ninth place with Revere at 17 points apiece. The Swampscott ladies took first, narrowly beating out Beverly and Marblehead, while Peabody took a commanding lead in the boys’ race, far ahead of the rest of the field.

Highlights for the day from the Lady Falcons came with Xanthi Pantazelos finishing a close second in the 200 meter final (26.66), Amanda Caldarone placing second in the long jump (16-7 1/2) and third in the 100 meter hurdles (16.37), and Carson Garvin tossing 32-7 1/2 for second place in the shot put. The Danvers girls took third in the 4x100 relay, clocking in at 52.85 seconds.

Joe Manson threw a 46-3 for second place in the boys’ shot put while Brian Hebert took fourth in the 2-mile with 10:24.49.
