First Parking Ban of Winter Declared

The first overnight parking ban of the winter under the town's new trial rules has been declared for Monday night.

No on-street parking will be allowed in Danvers from 1-6 a.m. early Tuesday morning, according to the Department of Public Works. Any cars that are left on the street will be subject to ticketing and towing. The total cost for a vehicle left on the road during the parking ban and towed is $175 - $125 for the tow, $35 for storage and $15 for the parking ticket.

The new policy was put into place in early December by an unanimous vote of the Board of Selectmen. The change allows overnight on-street parking all winter long except when a parking ban is announced, rather than a winter-long ban that prohibited overnight parking even when it did not snow.

Monday's parking ban is the first under the new rules, which are being used on a trial basis through the end of the winter.

Under the new policy, a second message will be sent out when the ban is lifted.

The National Weather Service is forecasting 6-9 inches of snow to fall in Danvers from Monday evening through Tuesday. As of 8:30 p.m. on Monday there was already a light coating of snow on the ground.
