Five Signs to Spot a Fake IRS Scam

Five Signs to Spot a Fake IRS Scam

Many people have recently received calls claiming to be from the IRS looking for back taxes that you owe. These calls have been scams. Below are five actions the IRS does not do:

1) Ask for your credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

2) Require you to pay them by a certain method such as a debit or credit card. They will also never ask you to send them a prepaid debit card, such as Green Dot.

4) The IRS allows you to appeal or question the amount you owe instead of demanding it right on the spot.
