Girl Downs $5 Candy Bar at Kohl's Without Paying

This is an excerpt from reports in the Danvers police log from Wednesday to Monday.

October 27

  • At 5:29 p.m., police received a report of an attempted shoplifting at Kohl's. A 54-year-old white woman from Lynn was issued a summons to court on a shoplifting charge after she tried to get away with a pair of Vera Wang shoes, socks and a shower curtain.
  • Jennifer LaGrassa, 19, of 1 Parson Ln., Manchester-by-the-Sea, was arrested at 7:31 p.m. for shoplifting at Claire's Boutique in the mall. She stole a pair of earrings.
  • At 11:43 p.m., police received a complaint of someone dumping trash and threats made during an ensuing argument at Rocco's Pizza on Maple Street.

October 28

  • At 2:31 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed a section of fence around the basketball court at the Holten-Richmond Middle School was damaged.
  • At 2:09 p.m., police responded to a car accident at the intersection of Elliott and Conant streets. A car approaching a stopped vehicle at the traffic light spun out of control and struck the light post after the driver failed to stop for the light. There were no reported injuries, but the post was damaged.

October 29

  • At 6:02 a.m., an employee at New Bridge Variety & Deli on Bridge Street reported someone stole a tray of bread and a bundle of newspapers that were sitting outside the store after being delivered. The stolen items were worth $12.
  • Jason Nickerson, 36, of 35 Heather St., North Attleboro, was arrested at 1:01 p.m. at the Motel 6 on Route 1. A clerk complained of a person, out of control, in the lobby, but Nickerson was taken into custody on a warrant for charges of breaking and entering for a misdemeanor and trespassing.
  • Charles Passanisi, 44, of 18 Hillcrest Rd., Danvers, was arrested at 2:52 p.m. on a warrant. An officer noticed Passanisi's car didn't have a front license plate and pulled him over on Endicott Street. The warrant charges are for multiple accounts of assault and battery (including on a police officer) and threats to commit a crime.
  • Jacklyn Thompson, 17, of 19 Shepard St., Gloucester, was arrested at Kohl's at 5:49 p.m. for shoplifting. She stole some clothes from the store and became uncooperative when confronted, police said.
  • At 7:04 p.m., police received a report of shoplifting at The Sports Authority. The suspect, a white male in his 20s, grabbed five sweatshirts, but dropped four of them in his flight from the store. Police said he was met outside by a white female driving a gray Nissan Sentra. The man also dropped his cell phone outside and police were able to locate the owner of the phone – a 24-year-old Stoneham man – and issued a court summons on the shoplifting charge.
  • At 7:14 p.m., police received a report of shoplifting at Nordstrom Rack. The suspect was a female who stole at least four pairs of shoes and left the scene in a car with Vermont license plates. The case is under investigation.
  • Margery Garciabello, 18, of 26 Harwood St., Lynn, was arrested at Kohl's at 7:16 p.m. for shoplifting of clothes.
  • At 11:22 p.m., police responded to Motel 6 on Route 1 after a female caller reported an unwanted guest. Police said a 31-year-old Peabody man was placed into protective custody after he had been drinking.
  • Lisa Massa, 44, of 88 Russell St., Malden, was arrested on Route 1 at 11:29 p.m. for driving under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation.

October 30

  • Richard Provencher, 42, of 15 Purchase St., Danvers, was arrested at his residence at 9:38 a.m. for domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness after a domestic incident with his girlfriend. The female said Provencher assaulted her in their home. Provencher was also arrested at a gas station and is due in court on other unrelated charges.
  • At 11:04 a.m., a resident on Kirkbride Drive reported someone stole her iPod from her apartment. She last saw the device on her kitchen table and suspected a friend was the culprit.
  • At 11:52 a.m., a male party came to the station to report that two of his credit cards were stolen and then used to make two purchases, one for $440 and the other for $892. Police said they were able to acquire video of the purchases being made and are following up with the investigation.
  • At 12:38 p.m., police received a report of a stolen boat from a residence on High Street. The Starcraft boat also had a trailer attached to it. There were no suspects.
  • At 12:57 p.m., police received a report of shoplifting at Kohl's. This time it was over a candy bar. Police said a young girl who was at Kohl's with her mother took a candy bar without paying for it and ate it. There was a language barrier with the mother, but eventually she paid for the expensive candy bar – it was $5.
  • At 3:11 p.m., a caller on Wenham Street said a large, hard object struck the person's car, inflicting damage.
  • Joseph Cobb, 27, of 26 Cabot Rd., Danvers, was arrested at 9:05 p.m. for breaking and entering for a felony. A homeowner on Elerton Lane caught Cobb in the rear of his home – in a sunroom – and called police. Nothing was reported missing or damaged.

October 31

  • Leighton Payson, 21, of 700 Maple St., Manchester, N.H., was arrested on Endicott Street at 1:49 a.m., following a motor vehicle stop. Payson was taken into custody on a warrant out of Gloucester on charges of negligent driving, property damage and disturbing the peace.
  • At 7:23 a.m., a man reported his car was stolen by a woman he met the night before. The man, who was staying at Motel 6 on Route 1, told police he met the woman while out drinking and awoke the next morning to find both her and his car gone. The vehicle was later found by Peabody police.
  • At 9:37 p.m., a resident on Wildwood Road reported someone damaged the person's mailbox.

November 1

  • At 8:48 a.m., a caller reported someone stole a red, white and blue "Welcome" banner that was left at the front entrance of the Holten-Richmond Middle School from a craft fair the day before.
  • At 4:23 p.m., a caller reported some acidic substance was splattered over the person's windshield while at a car wash and caused damage to the car.
