Massachusetts may be in for some wild weather Thursday afternoon clearing the way for a bright, sunny and warm holiday weekend.

Scattered thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall and frequent lightning are expected across the region from noon Thursday until 8 p.m. Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service. The storms could produce locally heavy rainfall which will lead to localized flooding of urban and poor drainage areas.

The risk for stronger storms is mainly across Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts, with a lower risk elsewhere in southern New England.
