Missing your W-2's?

Many of us are eager to file our tax returns to get those wonderful tax refunds, but what if you haven’t received your W-2 yet or lost it? The first step you should take is to contact your employer, or former employer, and ask them to send you your W-2 if they haven’t already.

The second step is that you can call the IRS at 800-829-1040 after February 14th; you will have to provide them with your name, address, social security number, and phone number. You will also need your employer’s name, address, and phone number, your employment dates and an estimate of your wages and federal income tax withheld based on your last pay stub.

The third step is to file your return on time or file an extension. If you still want to file your return without your W-2, you will need to file Form 4852, a substitute for Form W-2.
