North Shore Businessman Takes on Amazon

Keith Bedrossian of Secure Lock and Alarm launches an on-line store to compete with Big Box Stores

Shelly and Keith Bedrossian are fighting back against the big box stores, Amazon, and Ebay by launching their own on-line store, www.securesafestore.com

Keith Bedrossian, a Marblehead native, started his Beverly Locksmith & Safe business in 1996. Overtime his business expanded to include Total Property Protection ranging from Video Surveillance, Card Access Systems, Alarms, and Car Key Replacement.

Recently, like most small businesses, they have seen a decrease in their retail safe and vault sales because of the Internet. They wanted to get in the game and fight back. “Shoppers today want the convenience of shopping on line while having the peace of mind by shopping locally, “ says Shelly Bedrossian. The goal of building our own e-commerce web site was to give people the best of both worlds, while providing delivery and installation which is something that cannot be provided by other on-line retailers! We have been a safe wholesale dealer for over 15 years so our pricing can match or get very close to the on-line prices. What we loose in profit we hope to make up in volume.

About 6 months ago, Shelly who has a marketing background, started investigating the options. She began developing their on-line store through Volusion. They currently have 200 products on the site which launched last Friday and they have already made 5 sales; one in Michigan, another in Virginia, and 3 locally. An on-line store behaves just like a retail store, you need great selection, the store needs to be organized, and it needs a lot of marketing behind it.

With the backing of The Marblehead Chamber of Commerce, The Marblehead Business Referral Network, and Palmers of Marblehead, they had a Ribbon Cutting for their on-line store on November 13th. About 50 area businesses came out to support Keith and Shelly with their new endeavor.
