Obituary: Anne Gianarelis, of Danvers

Spent much time on their boat, The "Shangri-La".

Anne Gianarelis, 89, of Danvers, MA passed away at Hathorne Hill on December 30th, 2014. Anne grew up in Stoughton, MA and was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelia Hiotos and Paul Mootos, husband George Gianarelis, brother Bill Mootos, son-in-law Ralph Mirra, and is survived by her daughter Connie Gianarelis Mirra, granddaughter Adriana Gianarelis Mirra, brother-in-law- Nicholas and Judy Gianareles, brother-in-law Peter and Jackie Gianareles, brother Teddy Mootos, sister Mary Hall (Mootos), and many nieces, nephews and godchildren. She also leaves behind her selfless and thoughtful caretaker Felisha Bempong of many loyal years.

In her younger years, she received a degree and worked as a secretary before her marriage to George in 1949. Anne was an amazing cook and hostess, specializing in Greek food and loved to eat ice cream, especially grape-nut custard. During her happy marriage she spent much time on their boat, The “Shangri-La”. She was a woman who spoke her mind and took care of her family, which she held very close. Throughout her life, she always had pets and has left behind her cat Kim-Soo and her daughter’s Shih-Tzu Gucci who was by her side at her passing.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Vasilios Scholarship Fund in memory of the Gianarelis/Mirra family, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
