Obituary: Jessica F. (Tartas) Meredith, Head of Housekeeping at Sheraton Ferncroft in Danvers

Began her working career as a hairdresser and then worked in retail at Kresge Stores.

Jessica F. (Tartas) Meredith, 87, loving wife of the late Richard H. Meredith, died at her son’s residence with the family by her side on Monday, February 16, 2015.

Mrs. Meredith was born in Chelsea, on April 2, 1927, daughter of Chester and Katherine (Lepkowska) Tartas. She was raised and educated in Chelsea and graduated from St. Stanislaus High School. She then attended hairdressing and cosmetology school in Boston. In 1955, she and her family moved to Danvers.

Jessica began her working career as a hairdresser and then worked in retail at Kresge Stores. Prior to her retirement she had been employed for many years as head of housekeeping at the Sheraton Ferncroft in Danvers. She was a loving mother who devoted her time to creating a home for her family. As hobbies, Jessica enjoyed knitting, crocheting and enjoying her flower garden.

Jessica is survived by a son, Chester K. Meredith and his companion Gloria J. Almon of Middleton; her granddaughter, Stephanie, 3 great grandchildren, Hunter, Hayden and Kali; 2 sisters and their spouses, Phyllis and Louis Delvental of Tewksbury, and Pearl and Donald Tibbits of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother John Tartas.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 20, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. (downtown location next to City Hall & St. John’s Church) Peabody. Her Mass of Christian will be Celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers.
