Obituary: Joan (Cook) Butler, Taught French and Spanish at Holten High School

Member of the Maple Street Congregational Church and the Danvers Historical Society. Volunteered at Salem Hospital and VNA Care Network.

Joan (Cook) Butler 91, of Danvers, beloved wife of the late W. Keith Butler, died Thursday, July 2nd, 2015 at Masconomet Nursing Home in Topsfield.

Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Wallace C. and Madeline (Brown)Cook. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of the former Holten High School in Danvers. She continued her education at Mt. Holyoke College and earned her Master’s Degree from Wellesley College.

Mrs. Butler had been employed for many years as an educator. She was a French and Spanish teacher in the Danvers and New Jersey School Systems. She taught at Masconomet Regional High School and at the former Holten High School in Danvers.

A longtime resident of the Town of Danvers, Joan was a member of the Maple Street Congregational Church in Danvers. She was a member of the Danvers Historical Society, she was a volunteer at Salem Hospital and she was a volunteer with the VNA Care Network. She was active in alumni circles and was the past president of the Mt. Holyoke Alumni Club. She will be greatly missed.

Joan is survived by her nieces Susan E. Richardson of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Sally E. Truesdale of Beverly, her nephew, John K. Truesdale of Danvers and extended family.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Tuesday, July 7th at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hour prior to the service from 10 to 11A.M..
