John Thomas O’Connor, 79, beloved husband of Una (Kernan)O’Connor, died Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by his family.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John J. and Thelma B. (Thomas)O’Connor. He was raised and educated in Boston and Maine.

During the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Essex.
As a young man, he was a funeral director. He was a successful businessman and a well-known real estate developer.

A world traveler, he and his wife, had the pleasure of traveling to many foreign countries including Ireland, China, Egypt, Russia, Vietnam, Cambodia, India and many European countries. He was also an active member of the Maple Street Congregational Church and a member of the B.P.O. E. Elks Lodge # 1309.
In addition to his wife Una of 25 years, he is survived by his two step-sons,John Hyland of Panama City Beach, Florida and Stephen Hyland of Ireland, his sister, Thelma Jean Martinez of Ecuador, his nephew William Sjostrom of Lewiston, Maine and eight step-grandchildren.
Arrangements: His graveside service will be held at Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers, Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Route 62) Danvers.
