Obituary: John W. "Jack" Shaffer, Received over 125 U.S. Patents During his Career

John W. “Jack” Shaffer 77 of Danvers, died Monday, October 27th, 2014 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by his family. Jack was born in Williamsport, PA and attended the Williamsport High School. He then received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University, followed by a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Bucknell University.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie V. Schreckengast of Loganton, PA. They have a daughter, Anne M. Shaffer of Danvers, MA and a son John S. Shaffer and his wife Rebecca and two grandchildren Raicheal and Micah.

During his 42 year career with Sylvania, Jack received over 125 U.S. Patents, six GTE Technical Achievement Awards, and an OSRAM STAR Award for Innovation. Jack frequently gave credit to God for His guidance and help throughout his life. Also, he acknowledges many co-workers for their contributions to the many projects throughout his career. He last worked as a Staff Scientist with OSRAM Sylvania R&D at the OSI North American Headquarters facility on Endicott Street in Danvers.

Jack was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Topsfield, MA where he sang in the choir and served on various committees. He was a member of The Gideons International.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in Our Savior Lutheran Church , Boston St., Topsfield, Saturday, November 1st, at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visiting hours in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Thursday, October 30th, from 5 to 7 P.M.
