Obituary: Lena "Lee" (Pitman) Friend, was a Member of the Cadet Nurse Corps in WWII

Lena "(Pitman) Friend, 89, died Sept 19

Lena “Lee” (Pitman) Friend 89, of Danvers, formerly of Topsfield, beloved wife of the late Joseph P. Friend II, died September 19th, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness.

Born in Danvers, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Clara C. (Cooper) Pitman. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of the former Holten High School in Danvers. She continued her education graduating from the Salem Hospital School of Nursing.

Lee was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II.

Mrs. Friend had been employed as a registered Nurse. She had been associated with Beverly Hospital for many years as an I.V. Therapist until the time of her retirement in 1993.

A resident of the Town of Topsfield for 38 years until moving back to the Town of Danvers in 2004, Lee was a long time member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Topsfield. Lee was an avid reader and loved to spend time working in her gardens and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Lee is survived by her daughter, Helen Marciano and her husband Carmine of Beverly, her sons, Jeffrey P. Friend and his wife Tara of Danvers and Roger P. Friend of West Paris, Maine, her grandchildren, Stacey, Darien, Abigail, Amelia, Rickey, Leanne, Susan and Put and her nine great grandchildren, Amanda, Ray IV, Tony, Joseph, Theresa, Wendy, Heather and Sadie Grace and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Helen Webster, Gladys Thibedeau, Evelyn Dort, Doris Prussman and Harold, Albert and Elmer Pitman.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial service which will be held in the Trinity Episcopal Church, River Rd., Topsfield, Wednesday, September 24th at 10:30 A.M.. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield is private. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Lee’s memory to the Trinity Episcopal Church, 114 River Road, Topsfield, MA 01983.
