Obituary: Leroy Dirks; Lifelong Danvers Resident, Enjoyed Coaching Youth Football and Served on the Danvers Finance Committee

He was employed as an electrical engineer by Raytheon for 38 years until the time of his retirement.

Leroy Dirks, 81, died Saturday evening, April 25, 2015 at Salem Hospital. He was the loving husband of Elisabeth “Libby” (Gillis) Dirks, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.

Born in Danvers on Jan. 18, 1934, he was the son of Leroy and Grace (Brown) Dirks. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1952. Mr. Dirks went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and later a master’s degree from Northeastern University. He was employed as an electrical engineer by Raytheon for thirty-eight years until the time of his retirement. He served in various technical and management positions.

A lifelong Danvers resident, he enjoyed coaching youth football and had served on the Danvers Finance Committee.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a beloved son, Bruce Dirks and his wife Nancy of Encinitas, CA and was Grampy to Andrew and James Dirks. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond Dirks of Phoenix, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Constance Castellano.

His Graveside Service will be celebrated at 11:15AM on Friday, May 1, 2015 in Wadsworth Cemetery, Summer Street, Danvers. Visitation will be held on Friday prior to the service from 9-11AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Leroy’s name to the Danvers People-to-People Food Pantry, PO Box 2076, Danvers, MA, 01923.
