Obituary: Richard E. Caldarone, Longtime Town Meeting Member
Represented Danvers in the establishment of the North Shore Regional Vocational School.

Richard E. Caldarone, 86, passed away from pancreatic cancer on Friday July 10th at home surrounded by his family in Danvers. Born March 14, 1929 in Medford, MA, the son of the late Joseph J. and Edith I. (Dow) Caldarone. Dick was the beloved husband for 59 years of Nancy A. (Phinney) Caldarone. He was a graduate of Ipswich HS class of 1947 and served in the U.S. Navy fighter squadron VF-72 aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard CV-31 in Korea. He held degrees from Tufts University Class of 1957, the University of Rochester in 1961 and from the University of New Hampshire. He taught English at Marblehead HS and retired as a guidance counselor after thirty years in 1991. Dick and his wife Nancy wintered in Naples FL.
In addition to his wife he leaves three children: Susan DeBenedictis and her husband Albert, Julie Caldarone and her husband Thomas Schinkel, and Geoffrey Caldarone and his wife Lori. He also leaves five grandchildren: Anthony and Julia DeBenedictis, Amanda, Nicholas and Angela Caldarone and his sister Joyce (Dede) Todd of Rowley.

He was a long-time town meeting member in Danvers and represented the town in the establishment of the North Shore Regional Vocational School and later was a member of its school board. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as a past commander of the C.W. Davis Post 2359 in Danvers. Amateur radio was also a long-time hobby and his call sign was KX1N. He will be remembered for his love of family and his joy in attending his grandchildren’s many activities.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 14, at 9am at St. Richard Parish, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Mackey Funeral Home, 128 South Main St., Middleton, MA.
