Olympian and Topsfield Native Abbey D'Agostino to Lead Topsfield Fair Grand Parade.
The American Olympian will lead the parade from the Topsfield Commons to the fair's main entrance.

TOPSFIELD, MA — The Olympic spirit will be on full display Saturday morning during the Topsfield Fair Grand Parade.
Olympian and Topsfield native Abbey D’Agostino is set to lead the parade as the Grand Marshall, according to fair organizers. The parade starts at the Topsfield Commons at 9 a.m. with the opening ceremonies scheduled for 10 a.m. on the Trianon State directly inside the main gate on Roue 1.
D'Agostino made headlines during the Rio Olympics thanks to her display of sportsmanship during a preliminary heat of the 5,000 run. With about 2,000 meters to go, D'Agostino and Nikki Hamblin of New Zealand got tangled up and fell to the track. When D'Agostino got up, she helped Hamblin to her feet and encouraged her to finish the race. Both women completed the 12.5 laps, with D'Agostino crossing the finish line with what would turn out to be a torn ACL.

At the end of the games, the two received the Fair Play award for their actions and President Barack Obama said her actions are what "Olympic spirit and American spirit should be all about."
The Topsfield Fair runs until Oct. 10.
