Roof Fire At New Pentucket Regional High School

Fire crews quickly knocked down the blaze that caused minor damage at the school under construction.

WEST NEWBURY, MA — Firefighters arrived at a call late Friday afternoon to find smoke coming from the roof of the new Pentucket Regional High School.

The school, which is under construction, sustained minor damage after West Newbury crews knocked down the blaze in about a half-hour. There were no injuries.

West Newbury Fire Chief Michael Dwyer said the fire is not considered suspicious at this time but will be investigated with the help of West Newbury police and the State Fire Marshal's Office.

"This situation could have ended a lot worse," Pentucket Superintendent Justin Bartholomew said. "We appreciate the quick response by the workers who put out the initial flames, and thank the West Newbury Fire Department and the other departments for responding so quickly to secure the scene."

Bartholomew said the project is not expected to be significantly delayed.
