Runaway Boat Blocks Route 128 North In Danvers

The boat was sitting in the left lane near Endicott Street at the start of the afternoon commute on Wednesday.

DANVERS, MA — A runaway boat made for a long Wednesday afternoon commute through Route 128 in Danvers and Peabody.

The boat was detached from a truck and blocking the left lane of Route 128 North near the Endicott Street exit at about 3:45 p.m.

WBZ-AM reported at that time that traffic was already at a standstill back to Route 95 Peabody.

The boat was removed by about 4:25 p.m. with WBZ reporting that traffic was starting to ease.

WHDH-TV reported that the driver said he was driving on the highway when he hit a bump and the boat dislodged from its mount. The driver said the boat actually started to pass his Ford truck and he nudged it toward the left side of the road.

The station said there was some damage to the pavement and guardrail, but no other vehicles were damaged.
