Snow Budget Shrinks as Another Storm Moves In

Less than half of the town's snow budget is left as another winter storm is forecasted to move into Danvers this weekend.

If the forecast materializes, it will be the third weekend snowstorm this month.

Some forecasts call for close to a foot of snow in Danvers, but other possible tracks send it to the west and could bring only 1-3 inches to the North Shore.

"This weekend, it's more snow, and a foot where it stays all snow, perhaps a few towns picking up more," writes WHDH-TV meteorologist Chris Lambert is his latest blog.

At some point, the snow may mix with sleet or rain in Danvers, Lambert said, likely on Saturday evening as the wind comes in from the east. But that won't last and the wind will turns back to the northeast.

The storm will start on Saturday between 4 and 7 p.m. and last through Sunday afternoon, Lambert said.

The snow and ice removal budget has been used much more this year than last winter in Danvers and as of Feb. 17 the Danvers budget has seen $456,082 of the $695,189 budget spent.

The most costly storm was the blizzard on Feb. 8-10, which cost $156,000 plus about $55,000 in additional cleanup costs afterward, according to DPW director of operations Bob Lee.

Last weekend's storm cost another $45,707 plus $2,000 more in cleanup costs afterward.

Plows, sanders and salters have been called out a total of 17 times this winter in Danvers.
