St. John’s Prep Sailing Wins Qualifying Event

Next up for the Eagles is this weekend's NESSA Championship Regatta in Durham, N.H.

The St. John’s Prep sailing team finished first in its four-team wild card qualifying event last Sunday at the Bristol (R.I.) Yacht Club to advance to this weekend’s New England Schools Sailing Association (NESSA) Team Championship Regatta on Mendum Lake in Durham, N.H., home waters for the University of New Hampshire.

“We did very well and we’re excited to be going to New Englands again and to have the opportunity to compete on another lake,” said coach Bill Mackinson, whose team calls Lake Quannapowitt home. The Eagles compete in Division A of the Mass. Bay League.

Experience has served the Eagles well throughout the season. At the qualifier, seniors Gram Slattery and Dan Walsh-Rogalski manned the first boat, senior Jordan Bothwich and Brian Poirier (the lone underclassman) occupied the second boat and seniors Tyler Shepard and Nick Koen were in the third.
