State Rep needs to understand basic math

State Rep needs to understand basic math

To the editor,

I watched the October 20th debate between the two candidates for State Representative from the 13th Essex District and was stunned by the double talk that came out of the mouth of the incumbent Democrat, Ted Speliotis. Several times during the debate, the Republican challenger, Tom Lyons, brought up the fact that while the state spending is at an all time high, local aid (money received by the towns from the state) has still not been fully restored. Speliotis claimed that “local aid is the last thing cut and the first thing restored”, but how can that be true when the state spending is in high gear, but local aid is not? Is this just another example of Mr. Speliotis’ lack basic fiscal competency, or is it just a lie? Whichever you choose to believe, it should be evidence enough that it is time to send someone to Beacon Hill that understands basic finance and that person is Tom Lyons.
