Tomani Skin Therapy Day Spa, 'A Dream Come True'
Tomani Skin Therapy Day Spa Was Named In Honor Of Kristin Scollin's parents who died suddenly in 2001
When Kristin Scollin finally realized her dream of one day owning her own spa, she did it with a little advice from her dad.
"[He] always told me that if I find my passion, I would never work a day in my life,” she recalled. She never forgot those words of wisdom, taking her love for skin care and the beauty industry and setting about acquiring the skill-set needed to fulfill her desire.
After graduating from St. Mary’s High, Scollin attended the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics, where she became a fully licensed esthetician. Once schooling was completed, she continued to sharpen her skills over the years, training under some of the best estheticians and local make-up artists, including, David Nicholas of the David Nicholas International, and working as a freelance make-up artist for many years.

When Scollin, formerly of Lynn now residing in Lynnfield, was finally ready to take the next step, she discovered the location at 33 High St. in Danvers. She remembers having an inexplicable feeling that she was on the right path. After suffering the sudden loss of both of her parents within five months of each other the previous year, she was still in the process of grieving, and she happened to be viewing the space on the anniversary of her parent's wedding. She explained her feeling: “I knew it was fated to be where my dream should come true.”

The name Tomani is a tribute to Scollin’s parents, Tom and Anita.
They carry a wide selection of Glymed Plus skin care products, as well as those of its own private label brand. As a certified retailer of Clarisonic Skin Care Systems, Tomani offers such products as the Mia Skin Brush and Opal Infusion, and also a variety of body products. The staff has a long-standing reputation for poviding superior customer service, and was recently named both the #1 Choice for Day Spa, and #1 Choice for Manicure and Pedicure in an independent poll of local residents.
Scollin is quick to credit her “amazingly talented team of twelve for the spa’s continued success, as well as the loyalty of its clients, who have helped keep Tomani busy despite the recent economic downturn.”
In addition to overseeing the daily operations, Scollin is hands-on in the spa, as well: “As a master esthetician, spa therapist and expert make-up artist,” she said. Scollin continues, “Bridal makeup is one of my specialties, and I am booked a year in advance for some brides. I take my responsibilities very seriously, especially when providing advice on skin care and age management. When not in the treatment room, my patrons will find me at the front desk, extending greetings and gratitude. I think our clients appreciate that I’m present at my business every day we’re open, I feel it’s of the utmost importance to be available to them and to regularly thank them for their continued patronage.”
Through the power of social media, the business at Tomani has grown steadily of late. At the Tomani Facebook Page, potential clients are asked to “like” the page, in exchange for special discounts, last-minute promotions and daily deals, affording the recipients much needed pampering at a more affordable price. Customers are encouraged to go to the website at tomani.com to learn about the spa’s full suite of offerings and to purchase instant gift certificates, which are popular during the holiday season, and to find out information about extended hours and Monday openings.
Scollin confesses that many clients share their surprise at how she’s managed to fit so much into such a small spa, but she insists she has no plans to move from her High Street location. “Instead of looking for a bigger place, there is something that just “works” about our space. It is a very special place,” she said.
Most importantly for Kristin Scollin, she is doing what she truly loves to do, and is passionate about. “I truly look forward to coming to work every day and taking care of my clients,” she said. “It’s a wonderful feeling to know that what I do can make people feel better inside and out.”
