A Warm and Fuzzy Welcome: Meet the New Pastor at All Saints Annual North Shore Blessing of the Animals

DANVERS, MA -- All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore is delighted to introduce The Rev. Ian J. Hamilton, newly called as Pastor, who will begin his ministry with us in the most heartwarming way — by presiding over the beloved North Shore Blessing of the Animals.

This joyful 23-year community tradition will take place on the front steps of All Saints, directly across from Danvers Town Hall, where neighbors, families, and their animal companions gather each year to celebrate the gentle spirit of St. Francis, patron saint of animals and the environment, and to honor their animal companions. The event is rain or shine.

Ian Hamilton will serve half-time at both All Saints—where he is fully authorized to administer all sacraments in the Episcopal Church—and at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gloucester, in an exciting shared ministry that reflects a growing nationwide movement toward creative and flexible approaches to congregational life and community engagement.

Pastor Ian brings a warm, grounded presence to his ministry, shaped by a lifelong love of the church. Born and raised in the Cleveland suburbs, Ian earned his bachelor’s degree in religion from Ashland University in 2022 and a Master of Divinity from Luther Seminary in 2025. His formation includes a yearlong internship in Eugene, Oregon, and two study trips to Germany to explore the Protestant Reformation and the renowned Lutheran pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer, one of the earliest and most courageous Christian voices to oppose Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime.

Ian is excited to bring his ministry to New England, and he and his wife, Alexis, are eager to experience Massachusetts’s beauty and to walk alongside the people of the North Shore in faith, fellowship, and service.

The Blessing of the Animals is free and open to the public, offering the ideal first opportunity for the wider North Shore community to meet Pastor Ian during an afternoon filled with wagging tails, gentle purrs, children holding beloved stuffies to be blessed, and the simple joy of gathering with creatures great and small.

All faiths and no faiths are welcome. All you need is a loving heart.

Whether you bring pets, photographs, collars, urns, children clutching their favorite stuffies to bless, or just yourselves, you are warmly invited to greet the new pastor and enjoy an afternoon of gratitude, blessings, and connection.

Please ensure pets are on a leash or in a carrier. For animals unable to join us due to illness, distance, or because they now walk in our hearts rather than by our side, prayer papers will be available to honor them.

This gathering honors the deep bonds we share with our animals — the joy they bring, the grief their absence evokes, and the companionship that shapes our lives. It is a reminder that we are caretakers, not owners, of the world entrusted to us, and provides a moment to pause in gratitude for the creatures who make our hearts more whole.

Our animal companions bless us every day. And on this day, we pause to bless them in return.
