What to Do if Your Water is Discolored

The latest edition of "You Ask...Patch Answers" is about brown water that may be appearing in some Danvers homes and businesses.

Here's the latest installment of "You Ask...Patch Answers," in which we answer questions about life in Danvers.

The town reports "isolated areas" of water discoloration. If the water at your place has turned brown, here's what to do.

Gail Bernard at the Department of Public Works says the problem is from sediment going into the water supply because of Danvers' water treatment plant upgrade.

New pumps are being installed, she said in an email, which should fix the problem with discolored water.

"The water remains safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, and all other uses," Bernard wrote. "We are constantly sampling and testing the water to confirm this."

If you do have discolored water, the town advises that you let cold water run to flush out the system. If that doesn't work, they say to call the Water Division office at 978-762-0230. It could be the system in your part of town needs to be flushed.

We've also included the attached video from Andover, where many residents recently experienced bad discoloration in their water. It outlines steps to flush your water system and water heater.
