DANVERS, MA — New Year's Day in Danvers will still look a bit different this year as COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Massachusetts, but some places will open their doors on the first day of 2022.

It's always best to call ahead before going anywhere on the holidays to check hours, but here's a general look at what's open and closed on New Year's Day.

Danvers Town Hall will be closed on New Year's Day.

The Peabody Institute Library in Danvers will be closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Banks are also closed on New Year's Day but will be open on New Year's Eve. Check individual branches for hours.

Trash and recycling pickup in Danvers will not be interrupted this year because New Year's Day lands on a Saturday. The collection will occur as normal on Friday.

On New Year's Eve, the MBTA's bus and subway lines will be on a Saturday schedule, while everything else runs on a regular weekday schedule. On New Year's Day, most of the T will run on a Sunday schedule, except the commuter rail, which will be on a regular weekend schedule. There will be no New Year's Day ferry service.

Most malls and shopping centers are open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day with limited hours.

Many pharmacies and drug stores are open during normal hours on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Liquor stores will be open on New Year's Day.
