2016 Style Trends from Milan Fashion Week: Imported to U.S. by Ed Blum of Makeovers Salon + Spa in Easton

Top Stylist Was Chosen for Fashion Week's L'Oreal World Tour Team

It wasn’t all work and no play for Ed Blum of Makeovers Salon + Spa (of Easton, Mass., USA)during exclusive preview events leading up to 2015 Milan Fashion Week. This is where world-famous designers launch their latest collections. A highlight: Blum was selected to join the L’Oreal World Tour as a Black Elite team member for L’Oreal Professionnel (#tourwithlp). He could not have done it without the support of his business partner and wife, Norah Blum, as well as his immeasurably talented staff at Makeovers.

Upon his return to Boston in late September, Blum said, “What an amazing opportunity! You can actually feel the edgy fashion and style vibes from my Milan photos. I can’t wait to translate these newest trends and techniques for our clients. I don’t want to give away any secrets, but I was mesmerized by a lighter look makeup trend called Glo, and wavy bobs / dark brow / soft eye lid / strong liners /deep lip makeup by Urban Decay. Stay tuned.”

The show is called ‘Spring/Summer 2016’ but Blum, as is his style, plans to be ahead of the curve on what’s going to be hot. He observed many daring hairstyles, from soft and sleek sophistication to edge with geometric designs and color. Designers emphasized stripes, multicolor, animal prints, floral, polka dots, and delicate lace paired with faux fur.

At these events, Blum, who’s been in the salon business for 38 years, is never far from the fashion action. He says this Milan trip was especially exciting , being in the company of so many legends: L’Oreal Professional’s world-famous stylist Laurent Decreton; Christine Smith of L’Oreal; and John Costanza, General Manager of L’Oreal Professionnel USA (“a pleasure to work with – and he never goes on world tours!”); Gloria Saponaro, corporate event planner; and Justine Berger, education manager for L’Oreal Professionnel’s SoHo Academy. Models at the L’Oreal Studio wore outfits inspired by the late legendary designer Alexander McQueen.

Blum worked with the French Hairstylist Champion Laurent Decreton who works with McQueen’s collection. Decreton is L’Oreal Hairstyling Ambassador and Artistic Director at Haute Coiffure Francoise. Besides Decreton, Blum worked with many other international designers. Others with whom Blum hobnobbed included stylists at Armani, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Urban Decay, among other household names of the fashion world. “I was greatly inspired by the collection of Jean Paul Gaultier,” Blum noted.
