AARP Massachusetts Honors Easton Resident Marilyn Henderson with Andrus Award for Community Service
Henderson Honored for Outstanding Community Service

Boston – Marilyn Henderson has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, to receive the 2014 AARP Massachusetts Andrus Award for Community Service -- the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award.
AARP Massachusetts selected Henderson for her remarkable service which has greatly benefited her community, supported AARP’s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers.
Henderson has richly contributed to her community of Easton and improved the quality of life through her volunteer work with social, governmental, organizational, and spiritual entities. She has connected people in need to helpful resources, services and information. Her generosity of spirit is an inspiration to all who know her. Henderson has spent countless hours volunteering at fundraisers, health clinics, mentoring youth and advocating for seniors. She is known as a model of the importance of volunteering by making a difference in the lives of others and improving community engagement for those most in need.

The award will be formally presented to Henderson at a ceremony on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 10 AM to noon at the Easton Council on Aging, 15 Barrows Street, North Easton, MA.
“This award acts as a symbol to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” says Mike Festa, AARP Massachusetts State Director. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve.”

Recipients across the nation are chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer. The AARP Andrus Award for Community Service is an annual awards program developed to honor individuals whose service is a unique and valuable contribution to society. Last year, AARP recognized 52 outstanding individuals from around the country.
