Bring on Franklin: Oliver Ames Boys' Ice Hockey Team to Face Panthers in D-2 South Finals Tuesday in Bourne

The Oliver Ames boys' ice hockey team will be playing Franklin Tuesday at Gallo Arena in Bourne for the Division 2 South title at 5:15 p.m.

 

The Franklin High Panthers will be the Oliver Ames' boys' ice hockey team's opponent in the Division 2 South finals Tuesday at Gallo Arena in Bourne at 5:15 p.m.

The Panthers beat Mansfield, 4-3, in the Division 2 South semifinals Sunday in Bourne. Franklin's Alec Borkowski scored the game-winner late in the third period.

In their only meeting in the regular season, the Tigers defeated the Panthers, 3-1.

In the other Division 2 South semifinal, Oliver Ames (17-4-2) defeated Canton, 2-0, last Wednesday. With the snowstorm postponing the Franklin-Mansfield game, the Tigers will have been sidelined for six days when they take to the ice Tuesday night.

Since losing to Brockton, 2-1. Jan. 26, the Tigers have gone 12-0-1. The tie was against Sandwich in the finals of the Jeff Hayes Memorial Tournament. The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Asociation doesn't count wins or losses in overtime.

During that stretch, OA has outscored their opponents, 41-12.

Sophomore goaltender Jimmy Tierney has been one of the stars in the entire tournament, making 41 saves in the shutout win over Canton and coming up with several big saves in a 3-1 win over Coyle-Cassidy in the first round. In their first tournament game, OA defeated Dennis-Yarmouth, 4-1.
