Brockton High School Announced as a Recipient of CompareCards "Financially Literate Youth" Grant
School to use $5,000 in Funding for Credit for Life Fair

CompareCards launched a grant program earlier this year designed to help offset the costs associated with preparing a financial education program in K-12 schools. They recently announced the four winners of their Financially Literate Youth (FLY) program.
The $20,000, awarded by CompareCards, will be used for financial literacy programs in four schools located across the country.
Brockton High School has been awarded one $5,000 grant, to be used for their annual Credit For Life (CFL) fair.

The CFL fair allows students to participate in a three-hour simulation in which they choose a career and role-play their financial lives at age 25. Students receive a packet that contains their income, debt, credit score, and more, and then have the chance to make decisions about how much of their monthly income to devote to various bills, luxury items, and more. The program provides students with the foundation for understanding, planning, budgeting, and developing ethical strategies to help them become financially successful and knowledgeable adults.
“Brockton High School’s plans for their CFL fair will offer students an outstanding opportunity to make financial decisions in a real-life simulation, teaching them valuable skills they will need to build good financial habits and make informed financial choices as adults,” said Chris Mettler, founder of CompareCards.

“The FLY grant has given us a wonderful opportunity to continue to run and enhance our Credit for Life fair for over 200 students in Brockton,” said Ellen Culley, Director of Business, Technology, and Career education at Brockton High School. “Students are the future consumers and our goal is to have them be financially successful. The Credit for Life Fair provides students with that opportunity.”
FLY applications were evaluated based on the quality and feasibility of their proposed or existing program(s) and the potential of their program to effectively educate youth about financial choices.
“We wanted to expand upon our financial education offerings and provide funding for schools to implement a program of their choosing,” said Mettler. “Our grant program is unique because of the low barrier to apply and the limited restrictions on how schools can use the funding. We were very pleased with the applications we received and the important programs that will be implemented in these schools.”
