Coronavirus: Easton Town Election Postponed

EASTON, MA — The Easton Select Board has postponed its town election due to the coronavirus health emergency. The election, which was originally scheduled for April 28, has been moved to June 27 at Oliver Ames High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

With the forecast for safety and social distancing requirements still to be determined, voters are advised to take advantage of an early voting by mail option that was also created by this emergency law.

The law requires the Easton to post public notice of the postponed election and rescheduled election date on its website and to broadly publicize the postponement and rescheduling. The law sets a new voter registration deadline for June 17.

The law authorizes the town to reuse election materials. The town will be using the official and absentee ballots that are marked with the original April 28 election date on them for all voting (absentee and early voting). As required by the law a sample ballot is also available on the website under Department / Town Clerk / Elections Information.

In light of widespread practice of social distancing, anyone taking a precaution related to COVID-19 can vote absentee, and there is no-excuse voting by mail.

Absentee votes must be received by June 27. They can be requested up until June 26, but voters are advised to have ballots sent to them by June 12 to ensure they are received and can be returned, because town offices could still be closed or restricted in June due to the health emergency.
