Easton Native Runs 2017 Boston Marathon for Massachusetts Fallen Heroes

Oliver Ames graduate is hosting fundraisers for a local charity as she continues to train for the 2017 Boston Marathon.

Massachusetts Fallen Heroes, an organization dedicated to honoring the Fallen, supporting Gold Star Families and empowering Veterans, is pleased to announce its 2017 Boston Marathon team of 23 deserving runners. One team member participating in this year’s Boston Marathon on behalf of Mass Fallen Heroes is Easton native and 2009 Oliver Ames graduate, Katelyn O’Sullivan.

Katelyn will be representing the local charity, which was established in 2010 to honor and support Massachusetts families and veterans. With her father and grandfather both being Veterans and many friends in the service, it was an easy decision for Katelyn to choose Mass Fallen Heroes as her charity for the marathon. This will be Katelyn’s first marathon and thus far, has said the experience is incomparable.

“We are thrilled to have Katelyn on our team this year and grateful for the efforts she is making to raise the money to help further our mission,” said Dan Magoon, Executive Director of Mass Fallen Heroes. “Every year we look forward to building our teams for each road race we participate in and welcoming the runners into the tight-knit community we have created with past, present and even future runners.”

“Mass Fallen Heroes are a group of incredible people and an organization that I will support for the rest of my life,” said Katelyn O’Sullivan. “They made it so easy to feel like a part of their family and I could not be more honored to represent them on Marathon Monday.”

Fundraising has been challenging but Katelyn is determined to reach her goal of $7,500 for the charity. To do so, Katelyn will be hosting an event on March 11th at Clarke’s in Faneuil Hall and a ticketed work out class on March 25th to raise money for Mass Fallen Heroes.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be a part of the Boston Marathon and we take pride in creating these experiences for our runners that we hope they take with them for the rest of their lives,” said Magoon.

About Massachusetts Fallen Heroes

Massachusetts Fallen Heroes began in 2010 with the goal of honoring those who sacrificed their lives while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since then, MFH has expanded its mission to provide services and programs that empower returning Veterans, assist their families, and support families of the fallen. This past May, MFH unveiled a public memorial in Boston’s Seaport Common in commemoration of the fallen who fought in the Global War on Terrorism following September 2001. This May, MFH will again honor the sacrifice of Veterans and their families through its annual Patriots Week, a week-long public event held between Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day. MFH remains committed to supporting and uniting local Veterans and their families and raising awareness of their service and sacrifice.
