Easton Police Arrest Alleged Kindle Thief

Brandon Merritt, age 19, of 98 Summer Street, was arrested for fraudulent kindle purchases on Amazon.com.

 

An Easton man was arrested Friday afternoon after he allegedly fraudulently purchased kindles from Amazon.com with a fictitious account and sent them to vacant homes in town.

Brandon Merritt, 19, of 98 Summer Street was arrested Friday afternoon on Highland St for larceny of over $250. He was released on bail and will appear in Taunton District Court Monday.

Police Chief Allen Krajcik said detectives Leonard Coe and Det Sgt John Lynn set up surveillance outside of the vacant Highland Street home where Merritt had one of the kindles sent. He was subsequently arrested when he arrived to pick them up.

Krajcik said eight kindles have been recovered and others may be charged in the scheme.
