Easton Police Make Three Arrests Thursday Night and Early Friday

Police made arrests for for possession of heroin, OUI and possession of cocaine

The arrested three individuals Thursday night and Friday morning on three separate instances.

Arrests at 9 p.m., 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. included charges of possession of heroin, cocaine, assault and battery on a police officer and operating under the influence.

Matthew Sarnowitz, 28, of 9 Dogwood Ln was arrested for possession of heroin after police responded to a call near Hemlock Lane regarding suspicious activity on a dirt road owned by National Grid.

Upon arrival, police said they found an unoccupied jeep and spotted Sarnowitz walking towards them through the woods. They said they noticed him throw something to the ground as he walked towards them.

The object was a package of heroin. Sarnowitz was out on bail for several bank robberies that occurred last fall. He was transported to New Bedford House of Correction.

At 2 a.m., Police pulled over a motor vehicle operator at Belmont and Washington and subsequently arrested Felipe Leite, 24, of Carmicle Drive, Taunton for operating under the influence of alcohol (second offense), possession of cocaine, operating on a suspended driver’s license and speeding.

Officer Anthony DiCarlo was on patrol near Belmont and Washington Streets when he observed a grey Hyundai traveling southbound on Washington St at about 80 m.p.h.

Two hours later, at 4 a.m., Easton Police responded to a call at the corner of Main Street and Oliver Street and arrested Michael Goggin, 20, of 7 Dela Park Lane North Easton for operating under the influence of alcohol, assault and battery on a police officer (two counts), refusing to identify himself to police and operating negligently.

Police received a call regarding Goggin's vehicle,which had been reportedly stopped at the intersection for nearly 20 minutes. Upon arrival, police said they found him passed out at the wheel.

"They woke up the individual and he was found to be very intoxicated and combative," Police Chief said in a statement. "Officers had to subdue him with pepper spray."

Goggin, Leite and Sarnowitz are scheduled to be arraigned in Taunton District Court Friday.
