UPDATED: Easton Woman Killed in Route 24 Crash

An Easton woman was killed and two others were seriously injured late Saturday night in a two-car motor vehicle accident on Route 24 in Stoughton that involved an alleged drunk driver, Massachusetts State Police said.

Maureen O'Brien Ellis, 54, was killed when a collision ejected her from a vehicle.

Patricia L. Neville-Colp, 48, of Bridgewater was arraigned Monday in Stoughton District Court. She pleaded "not guilty" and Judge Richard Savignano set her bail at $100,000. He ordered her to random alcohol and drug tests. Her next court date is Oct. 11.

She was charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor; motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of drugs; operating under the influence of liquor, causing serious bodily injury; operating under the influence of drugs, causing serious bodily injury; operating under the influence of liquor; operating under the influence of drugs; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; and leaving the scene of a crash involving personal injury or death.

Neville-Colp allegedly entered Route 24 southbound from Route 139 and tried to cut across two travel lanes in her Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said. Neville-Colp's Cherokee struck a KIA sport utility and caused it to roll over, ejecting O'Brien Ellis, who was a passenger.

Neville-Colp's lawyer, public defender Larry Tipton, was not immediately available for comment.

Police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement Sunday evening that Neville-Colp attempted to drive away, and that her eyes were glossy and liquor could be smelled on her breath. Sixteen marijuana cigarettes were found in her car, including one partially used on the floor board, according to the state police. A pill bottle was also found, however, the pills inside could not yet be identified.

State Police said the Bridgewater woman failed five separate field sobriety tests.

"Subsequent investigation revealed that Neville-Colp was at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Randolph prior to the crash," Procopio said.

The driver of the KIA and the second passenger, O'Brien-Ellis' brother in-law and sister, 64-year-old Steven Cadoff and 63-year-old Martha A. Cadoff of Sharon were transported to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries. By Sunday evening, both had been treated and released, a hospital spokesperson said.

Police said both were wearing a seat-belt, however O'Brien Ellis was not.

O'Brien-Ellis' husband of 31 years, Joseph Ellis, died in January of esophageal cancer, according to a Kane Funeral Homes obituary. The obituary does not identify any children, but says the couple have "many nieces and nephews."
