Easton's Snow and Ice Removal Procedure

Find out what steps residents can take to make the snow removal process easier for the town.

The Town of Easton has a set procedure when snow starts sticking to the ground, roads and sidewalks.

The Department of Public Works will remove snow and ice from about 260 lane miles of public roadways, 25 miles of sidewalks and all municipal and school parking lots, according to the Department of Public Works.

The DPW will pour road salt over the street to prevent icing from occurring before the snowfall is expected to begin. Sidewalks that will be given high priority are located near schools, businesses and along main roads.

Vehicles parked on the street during the snow removal process are subject to towing.

The Town is not responsible for mailboxes, basketball hoops, fencing or landscaping items that get in the way and are damaged during the snow plow operations.

The Town of Easton recommends residents to follow these directions when the town is undergoing snow plow operations:

  • Residents should wait as long as possible to clear the end of their driveway. They should also place the snow towards the direction the plow will be traveling to prevent the snow from being re-deposited back into the driveway.
  • Do not place trash bags, barrels or recycling bins on top of snow banks. Place them on the street at the foot of the snow banks or at the end of the driveways. Make sure these items are not in the path of the plows.
  • Keep children away from the snow banks and from the edge of the road.
  • Stay off the roads when the plowing operations are taking place. The plows are able to operate more effectively with less traffic. Motorists on the road should give the plows plenty of room.
  • Residents should clear snow away from the nearest fire hydrant and keep catch basins clear of snow to prevent street flooding.
  • Do not deposit any water or other freezable substances onto the streets. The water may freeze and cause a hazardous condition.
