Jim Hanley Soccer Marathon

Jim Hanley, a long-time volunteer and coach for the Easton Youth Soccer League, had a vision to create a soccer marathon event, where players of all ages would participate, to celebrate the game of soccer and to raise money for the important programs that are offered by EYSL.

The plans for the event were delayed when Jim was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010.  In February of this year, Jim Hanley’s battle with cancer came to an end and Easton lost an outstanding member of the community.  Jim’s impact on the families of Easton was evidenced by the scores of parents and children that attended the services celebrating the life of the man they knew simply as “coach”.

Jim had a passion for soccer.  It was that passion that drove him to continue coaching and serving on the board of Easton Youth Soccer League despite all the difficulties that come with fighting cancer.  The courage, strength, and spirit that Jim displayed during this trying time were not only a lesson for his players but for all that had the privilege of coming to know Jim.  There were certainly many days when Jim did not feel like heading out to soccer practice, but there he was without fail, without a complaint, and always with a smile on his face.
