Easton Farmer's Market Relocating to Depot Street 'S' Curve

The new location will increase visibility and parking, Agricultural Commission Chair says.

If you get your summer veggies from the Easton Farmer's Market, you'll have to find them at a new location this year.

Selectmen approved a request from Agricultural Commission Chair Ed Hands Monday night to relocate the market from the Sheep Pasture to the "S" Curve on Depot Street near the Cross Street intersection.

"It's known to old-timers liked me as Dead-man’s curve," Hands said. "But, the happier name is the "S" curve."

Hands said the decision to relocate included increased visibility and unsafe parking conditions at Sheep Pasture. The nearby location of was also a consideration in the move.

"We felt this was a very strong location because of its visibility and the fact that it is located away from Langwater Farm and there's not really as much competition between our one really strong entity in town right now," he said.

Hands said customers would enter from the east (coming from the Monument), and exit from the west (heading towards Five Corners). He said broken pavement at the east entrance creates a natural speed bump. At the exit, no left turns would be allowed.

Handicap parking will also be designated inside the curve. The location, Hands said, had been reviewed by a Design Review Team that included the fire and police chief.

Hands said having Supermarkets like and nearby could help with business.

"People will buy staples at supermarket and then get their fresh vegetables at the market," he said.

The Board voted unanimously to approve Hands' request.

"As long as traffic and parking are worked out, it’s a great location," Board of Selectmen member Ellen Barlow said.
