Garage Fire Sends Easton Fire Department to Brookview Lane Thursday

Easton was assisted by Stoughton as they put out a fire started by solar panels on Brookview Street Thursday.

Easton and Stoughton responded to a call from an area contractor at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday who said he saw flames coming from the roof of a garage at 9 Brookview Street Thursday afternoon.

The fire, which was started by solar panels on the roof of the attached garage, according to Easton Fire Captain James Walsh, took two hours to put out. There were no injuries.

"It started with the solar panels," he said. "It extended to the garage roof and attic area."

Walsh said people were home but were unaware the garage roof had caught fire. Currently, the department is going to look to a solar panel expert to determine the cause of the fire. He said estimated damage is approximately $5,000.

Two Easton fire engines, one Easton ladder and a Stoughton engine worked to put the fire out.
