George Plimpton Comes to Life in New Movie

in "Plimpton! Starring George Plimpton," George Plimpton's life and legendary career is looked at in a documentary. Plimpton was a member of the Ames' family and spent summers in Easton.

 

He's been dead for 10 years and it's been 50 years since he "quarterbacked" the Detroit Lions in "Paper Lion," but George Plimpton is starring in a new movie, called "Plimpton! Starring George Plimpton." 

Plimpton summered in Easton as a child the Ames Estate. His mother was Pauline Ames, the daughter of Oakes and Blanche Ames.

He was knowned his first person forays into the world of sports. Besides being a quarterback, he was tried to make the pro golf tour (Bogey Man), played goalie for the Boston Bruins (Open Net), Willie Mays in baseball (Out of My League) and fought boxers Archie Moore Sugar Ray Robinson for Sports Illustrated writing pieces.

"Paper Lion" is perhaps his most famous book and was made into a movie, starring Alan Alada as Plimpton.

He was also the co-founded of the Paris Review and wrote for Sports Illustrated in his legendary career.

Plimpton also had movie roles in films such as  "Good Will Hunting" and "Volunteers."

He was also a Harvard University and classmate of Robert Kennedy and helped wrestle the gun away from Sirhan Sirhan when Kennedy was assassinated in 1968. 

The documentary on his life will be debuting in New York City May 31
