Man Drowns in Mansfield Pond
Local police said a 23-year-old Mansfield man drowned over the weekend.
MANSFIELD, MA — A Mansfield man drowned in Mill Pond over the weekend, police said.

Matthew Cronin, 23, was found dead in about 10 feet of water Sunday at about 7:30 a.m., according to the Mansfield Police Department.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy,” Mansfield police said in a statement.
Saturday afternoon, a local family told police that they had not heard from Cronin. A search through Sunday morning led police to Mill Pond off of East Street, with evidence on scene suggesting that the victim fell through the ice.

The death is under investigation by the Mansfield Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police, but is not considered to be suspicious.
