Neighboring Brockton to Vote on Casino Proposal Today

Many from Easton will likely have their eye on the results in the neighboring town.

While Easton will not vote today, many residents and officials will likely take an interest in Brockton’s referendum vote today.

Residents in the neighboring town will decide if the city will welcome a $650 million resort casino for the Brockton Fairgrounds. If approved, the developer would enter into negotiations with the surrounding towns, including Easton.

A win does not guarantee a casino a town over. Brockton is competing with New Bedford and Somerset for the state’s final casino license.

Last month, Easton town administrator David Colton told the Boston Globe that there will be a discussion about impacts if Brockton voters give their approval to the proposal.

This would not be the first time the town has dealt with a potential gambling project in a neighboring town. In 2013, the town negotiated a surrounding community agreement with Raynham Park before the facility lost the slots license to Plainridge Park in Plainville.
