Neighbors Help Alert Mobile Home Occupants of Fire

Easton fire responded to a blaze at the mobile home park early Saturday morning.

From Easton Fire:

The Easton fire department responded to a reported mobile home fire at the Easton Mobile Home Park at 5:43 am. Engines 2,4,5 and West Bridgewater Ladder 1 responded. Engine 4 arrived on scene at 5:48 a.m. and reported smoke showing from the home and confirmed the occupants were out of the mobile home.

The fire was knocked down and contained very quickly by firefighters, containing the fire damage to one bedroom. There is heavy smoke damage throughout the home.

The occupant of the trailer, John Costello, was sleeping in the living room while his daughter was sleeping in a bedroom. Two mobile home park residents, Ilene Flood who was out walking, and Art Mckeckin who was in the trailer next door saw the smoke coming from the home and began banging on the doors.

John Costello stated that his dog, a German Shepard woke him up and he heard the banging. He stated the smoke was thick and filled the home almost to the floor. He went to the rear to get his daughter out of mobile home.

There was a smoke detector present in the home but it did not work to alert the occupants.

The owner of the home stated that he does not have insurance on the home.
