Oliver Ames Wrestling Clinches Share of Davenport Division in Win Over Foxborough

It looks like head coach Adam Pomella has his Oliver Ames wrestling team is peaking at the right time.

Following an impressive win over Mansfield on Monday, OA followed up by clinching a share of the Davenport Division after its 57-20 dual-meet victory over Foxborough Wednesday night at the Nixon Gymnasium.

OA, which can clinch the small Hock outright with a win against Canton next week, improves to 7-5. Foxborough, meanwhile, dropped to 6-8.

“I was very happy with how our team performed,” said Pomella. “Everyone stepped up and wrestled their best, which is what we needed today."

With the luck of the draw, OA got the momentum they needed early.

Pinfall wins from Nick Hutchinson (over Jack Shoener in the 170) Matt Harding (over Steve Coleman in the 182), Will Banard (over Matt Lovely in the 195) and Jake McCabe (over Jayln Simpson in the 220) helped OA earn the first six decisions.

“It was nice to get the first four matchups to start,” said Pomella. “We were hoping to start off nice and high [in weight class] with this meet. The start was strong and that helped pave the way tonight.”

With many of his upperclassmen sitting this dual-meet out, Foxborough coach Jim Fraser knew he was going to be dealing with an inexperienced lineup.

While OA took advantage by building a comfortable lead, Fraser, thought his team progressed nicely during the second half of the dual-meet.

“I sat a lot of the juniors and seniors tonight because I felt that they were struggling a little bit,” said Fraser, whose team has gone through a roller-coaster season. “Obviously, the scoring wasn’t too great, but there were a lot of positives things in there, so that wasn’t too bad.

“The season as a whole is not where we want to be, but it could be worse. We have a good future and they did some nice things out there tonight.”

Jake Dorman earned the Warriors' first decision when he defeated OA’s Tim Gover in a battle of 113’s, while Brendan Duffy closed the night with a victory over Devin Thomas in the 160 lb. matchup.

OA, meanwhile, got contributions from Lucas Keegan (106 victory over Jamie Peccaro), Jameson Dixon (going the distance with Alex Lee in the 126) and Chris Servello (earning OA’s last pinfall over Salman Alam in the 152).

Foxborough looks to bounce back the Marshfield tournament Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

“The season hasn’t gone as planned, but there’s still time to recover,” Fraser said. “Hopefully, we can continue to progress.”

OA will look to continue its momentum during a quad meet in Sandwich that also includes Hingham, Melrose and Norwood on Saturday morning.

“We’ll have a tough quad meet this weekend,” Pomella stated. “Hopefully, we can continue this momentum and place nicely.”
