Obituary: Richard Fratus

Mr. Richard Fratus was awarded two Purple Hearts during his service in the United States Army.

Richard Fratus, age 87, of Attleboro, formerly of Easton passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the V.A. Medical Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of the late Jeanette E. (McKinnon) Hooley.

Born in Norton on Aug. 18, 1925, he was a son of the late Julio and Rose (Gomes) Fratus. He grew up and was educated in Easton.

During WWII he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Fratus worked as a cement mason for over 20 years at White’s Construction Co. in Easton. A resident of Attleboro for the past 10 years, he had formerly resided in Easton for most of his life.

Richard was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He loved gardening and always possessed a special fondness for animals.

He was the devoted father of Gina, Valerie, Nancy, Patty, Jean, Shaunna, Rose, Danny and Shirley. He was the brother of Betty and Artie and is also survived by his cherished 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral services with military honors on Wednesday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
