Oliver Ames Coaches Win Coach of the Year Awards

Boys' soccer head coach John Barata and field hockey coach Janice Sundell were named coaches of the year by the Boston Globe.

The accolades keep rolling in after a thrilling season for the Oliver Ames boys’ soccer and field hockey teams.

Earlier this week, boys’ soccer head coach John Barata was named the Division 2 coach of the year by the Boston Globe.

Barata coached the Tigers to a 13-6-2 regular season record before making it to the D2 state finals where they lost 1-0 to Concord-Carlisle, a team considered to be one of the best in the state.

Overall, Barata has a record of 78-22-20.

In field hockey, coach Janice Sundell was named the Division 1 Coach of the Year after a 13-0-3 regular season, a Hockomock Davenport Division title, and a trip to the D1 South finals.

The league title was the first for OA since 1986.
