Route 495 Police Chase: 2 Arrested, Officer Hurt, Stop Sticks Deployed

A police chase on Route 495 Thursday ended with two arrests. William and Stephen Poirier were charged with a host of crimes.

Police deployed stop sticks to end a chase through several towns on Route 495 Thursday morning.

Two homeless suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. William Poirier, 60, and Stephen Poirier, 29, were charged with a host of crimes.

At about 9 a.m., Mansfield police responded to Francis Avenue for a report of an assault. Stephen Poirier assaulted an officer while William Poirier hopped in a silver Toyota Corolla and fled toward Foxborough, police said.

The chase continued through Norton and Taunton; Poirier ran over stop sticks on Route 495 and was taken into custody when his vehicle came to a stop, police said. The officer Poirier assaulted suffered minor injuries, police said.

Stephen Poirier was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. He also had several warrants. The officer Poirier assaulted suffered minor injuries, police said.

William Poirier was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to obey police, and disorderly conduct. Police said he will likely face further charges.

"The Mansfield Police Department would like to extend our gratitude to the Taunton Police Department, Town of Raynham Police Department, and Norton Police Department, as well as Massachusetts State Police Troopers from Foxboro and Middleboro barracks," Mansfield police said in a statement. "All agencies worked together to bring this incident to a quick and safe conclusion."
